Weekly update

This week is all about bathrooms, and lots of them.

First, here is progress in the master bath.

Then the bathroom at the top of the stairs.

The new toilet in the large upstairs guest bedroom, where some day, you'll be able to pee while waving at the people in the big room below.

And the improved creepy toilet downstairs. Patrick, ever the perfectionist, is shimming his beadboard frame to compensate for the slightly bowing wall. No wonder it's taking him forever...

Weekly update

We woke up saturday to a torrential downpour in Paris. But by the time we got to Vimory, it was warm and the sky was a perfect blue.

We met with our "team" to discuss next steps -- the kitchen! Patrick brought us a big bag of girolles that he picked himself that very morning. We are spending the night for the first time in a month! The house is very much upside down, but Thierry left a few powerful space heaters to make up for the fact that there is no heat and Colette had prepared Aud's bedroom for us, even lining up our slippers by the bed. We are very lucky for this team.

We built a big fire in the firepit by the river and spent a evening looking at stars.

It rained again on the drive back to Paris. But we have our loot!

This week, we are reporting from Chipping Campden, with photos from Colette. It looks like the second dormer has been cut out and tile work has started in the bathrooms.

Aud arrives tomorrow and we'll be off to England, so we won't be at La Berge for a few weeks. But thanks to Colette, we can still keep up with the updates!

Looks like we've got a new dormer, exploding bittersweet and goofy people on the roof.

This week, the little powder room got enlarged and a new bathroom was framed in one of the guests bedrooms. Nice progress.

Also, it is becoming clearer and clearer how crooked our roof was and how much work it is to straighten it out. Go Patrick, go! A big Merci to Colette pour les photos -- without her, we'd never know what's happening under that tarp! (sans elle, on ne saurait jamais ce qui se passe sous cette bâche!)
