Martenitsa

According to Bulgarian folklore, March 1st marks the beginning of spring. On that day, people give each other  a Martenitsa, a red and white yarn bracelet, that they must wear until they see a budding tree. When they do, they hang the bracelet on the tree. The red yarn symbolizes good health, the white is long life.

The one my sweet Bulgarian co-worker Petya tied one on my wrist ended up on our peach tree. Obviously, this is also our first crop.
